One on One

Anggun

The Indonesian singing sensation discusses her music career and cultural challenges on the road to success.

Singer-songwriter Anggun was born in Jakarta, Indonesia, and discovered early in life that singing and dancing were her most natural forms of expression.

She says: “When you use music it makes sense because it touches your heart. So I’ve always sang my way through everything.”

By the age of 12, she had become a child singing star in her home country and decided shortly thereafter to pursue an international career.

Since then, she has produced numerous hit albums in multiple languages, beginning with her groundbreaking album “Snow in the Sahara” released in 33 countries.

In this interview with Riz Khan, Anggun opens up about the challenges she faced along the road to international fame and where she finds continued inspiration.
