in the Golan Heights

The Golan Heights, a rocky plateau in south-western Syria, has long been an area of dispute.

After Israel seized the Golan Heights from Syria towards the end of the 1967 Six-Day War, the region came under Israeli military control.

Today there are more than 30 Jewish settlements on the heights, with about 17,000 settlers. The majority 20,000 remaining Syrians are Druze.

Many Syrians still believe and dream of the day they will reoccupy the Golan Heights – a day that Jewish settlers say will never come.

Filmmaker Paul Martin looks at this divided region and what the possibilities are for peace.
