In this episode of Talk to Jazeera, Martin McGuinness, a former commander in the Irish Republican Army, talks to Al Jazeera’s Alan Fisher.

For 30 years, the group fought a guerrilla war to try to force the British from Northern Ireland, a small state created by partion on the island of Ireland more than 70 years ago. But in recent years, he has been at the forefront of the drive for peace.

Now his political party sits in a devolved government in Belfast with a group that would have once been considered his arch enemy.

Martin McGuinness talks to Al Jazeera about how the main players involved in peace and reconciliation in South Africa helped push Northern Ireland to peace, and how he now uses his experiences from the past 30 years to help in other conflict zones around the world.
