As General Pervez Musharraf, the Pakistani president, comes under US pressure to go forward with national elections and lift restrictions on freedom of movement, Riz Khan speaks with Wajid Shamsul Hasan, an adviser to the opposition Pakistan People’s Party leader Benazir Bhutto.

Hasan, a close friend of Bhutto’s, is also a former Pakistani high commissioner in Britain.

We ask him why the deal between Musharraf and Bhutto broke down, what it will take for Bhutto’s supporters to end their protests and what he believes the US should be doing in the case of Pakistan.
