In this episode of Talk to Jazeera, Manouchehr Mottaki, the Iranian foreign minister, talks to Al Jazeera’s Mike Hanna ahead of forthcoming talks on Iraq between Iran and the US, their fourth round of such discussions this year.

Mottaki places the blame for the failing security situation in Iraq squarely on US policies. He calls for the withdrawal of all foreign troops and the passing of responsibility for internal security directly to the Iraqi government as a resolution to the problems.

He challenges allegations that Iran is helping to arm militias thereby feeding instability in Iraq and accuses the US of trying to scapegoat others for their “failed” policies in Iraq.

Mottaki also addresses the issues surrounding Iran’s nuclear enrichment programme and the perceived threat of nuclear activity within the region.
