Michal Mejstrik: ‘A viable system’

Finance professor talks about what makes the Czech economy successful and how southern European economies lost out.

This big Mediterranean type of social system is not viable in the long term.

Michal Mejstrik is the professor and chairman of the Institute of Economic Studies at the Charles University in Prague.

His academic focus is on financial markets, corporate finance and banking.

Mejstrik was the chairman of the Czech Republic’s International Chamber of Commerce between 2011-2012.

He is the founding member of the Czech Association for European Studies. In 2009, he was made a member of the National Economic Council of Government.

He spoke to Empire about what makes the Czech economy a success, and where the southern European economies lost out.
