Sri Lanka’s newspaper men explain how they overcame bans on ink and paper to report the news at the height of the war.

During its war with the Tamil Tigers, the Sri Lankan government restricted the amount of fuel, medicines and food items reaching the north and east of Sri Lanka. Even the newsprint essential for printing newspapers came under the ban.
The embargoes reached their peak during the 1990s, when Jaffna’s newspaper men had to overcome the scarcity of ink and paper to publish news of the bombings and deaths.
