What’s the future of marriage equality in Taiwan?

On a new episode of The Take podcast, Al Jazeera journalists talk about Taiwan’s local elections and the island’s gay rights movement

Marriage equality in Taiwan, which seemed a sure thing less than two years ago, is now very much in limbo.

Local elections on November 24 delivered a crushing blow to the island’s ruling party, forcing President Tsai Ing-wen’s resignation as chairwoman of the Democratic Progressive Party.

At the same time, voters passed a number of anti-same-sex marriage referendums, despite a 2017 court ruling legalising same-sex marriage.

In a new episode of The Take, host Imtiaz Tyab talks about the future of marriage equality in Taiwan with Al Jazeera correspondent Adrian Brown and Victoria Hsu, executive director of the Taiwan Alliance to Promote Civil Partnerships.
