Sharif leads Pakistan’s ‘long march’

In Lahore, east Pakistan, Sharif defied house arrest and a government ban to lead protesters through the streets [Reuters]
Lawyers and opposition activists on the march have been pushing for the restoration of judges deposed by Pervez Musharraf, the former president [Reuters]
But they are joined by activists rallying in direct support for Sharif and his brother, Shahbaz, who have been barred from elected office [AFP]
Protests turned ugly when demonstrators clashed with police [Reuters]
But the defiant marchers plan to stage a sit-in at parliament in the capital on Monday [AFP]
The government has refused permission for the demonstration and put the security forces on alert [AFP]
So far, Pakistani authorities have detained hundreds of activists on the "long march" [AFP]
