Ingrid Betancourt freed

Betancourt, who holds both French and Colombian citizenship, was captured by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (Farc) while campaigning for president in 2002 [AFP]
Supporters have held numerous rallies in Colombia, France and other countries to demand the rebels release her and other captives [EPA]
A vigil in February marked the sixth anniversary of her capture [EPA]
After being rescued by the Colombian military on Wednesday, Betancourt was met by her mother and husband at an air base in Bagota [AFP]
Her children, sister and nephew were given the good news in Paris, and received at the Elysee presidential palace [AFP]
Eleven other Colombians were rescued with Betancourt during the covert military operation [AFP]
Three US military contractors working for the Pentagon - seized in 2003 - were also freed and arrived in Texas early on Thursday [AFP/US Embassy]
Alvaro Uribe, Colombia's president, and other world leaders hailed Betancourt's rescue, calling on the Farc to make peace and release its remaining hostages [AFP]
