Germany's Merkel forms coalition government

Chancellor picks first female defence minister and names Social Democrat as foreign minister.

    German Chancellor Angela Merkel has signed an agreement to form the country's next coalition government.

    The deal between Merkel's Christian Democrats and the leaders of the Christian Social Union and the Social Democrats was sealed in Berlin.
