Russia staging lavish winter games

President Putin seeks redemption through staging most expensive winter Olympics to date, after 'homophobia' backlash.

The Russian president Vladimir Putin has said that gay people are welcome at next year's winter games in Sochi.

Putin was heavily criticised after the Russian government introduced a law which banned so-called homosexual propaganda.

But as the clock counts down to the most expensive winter game staging to date, organisers are also under fire facing claims of corruption.
