Arms treaty talks begin in Geneva

Diplomats meet in Geneva in bid to draft new strategic arms reduction treaty.

US and Russia

US and Russian negotiators are meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, to negotiate a treaty aimed at reducing their nuclear weapons arsenals.

It is the biggest weapons disarmament agreement of its kind and will restrict the type and number of carrier systems; including missiles, fighter jets and submarines that each side could deploy.

It is a sign that the US and Russia have entered a new era of cooperation.
