Abkhazia's space monkey revival

Research centre which used to send monkeys into space trying to recapture former glory.

     

    A research centre in Abkhazia which used to send monkeys into space has become a symbol of the region's efforts to break away from Georgia.


    The former Soviet institute had fallen into disrepair but since Russia controversially recognised Abkhazia as independent, it has been trying to recapture some of its former glory.
