In a separate attack, a Nato soldier was killed and another wounded in an explosion in the south of the country, a statement from the International Security Assistance Force said.

The nationalities of the soldiers were not released following the blast in the Ghazni province.

The latest casualty brought to 38 the number of foreign forces serving under Isaf and the separate US-led coalition killed in Afghanistan this year.

More than 70,000 international troops are based in Afghanistan fighting the Taliban, which was forced from government in 2001.
