Gaming firms bet on smart devices

Tokyo event highlights increasing alliances between internet social media sites and the video-games industry.

    The latest in a new crop of video games and devices have been unveiled at this year's Tokyo Games Show, where, despite tough financial times, companies are hoping that innovation will help drive sales.

    As smartphones take over the mobile market, there is a move towards offering models that can also be used as a gaming device.

    There have also been increasing alliances between internet social media sites and gaming companies, as the rise of social games is seen by both as a growth market.
