The lure of fame has long played an important role in elections in the Philippines, which will hold its national and local votes on May 10.

Imelda Marcos, the country’s former first lady, is vying for a congressional seat while Joseph Estrada, the former president and movie star, wants to be president again.

And both, among the most recognisable faces in Philippines politics, have pasts linked to corruption.

Graft allegations, however, have not fully taken the shine off their appeal.
