Video: Batik battle

Asian neighbours re-ignite a long-standing dispute over the origins of the art.

Batik is an ancient art that involves painting on to clothing and fabrics which Unesco, the United Nation's cultural body, has designated as part of Indonesia's cultural heritage. Malaysia too wants the same acknowledgement.

The right to claim ownership of the ancient art has spurred a battle between the two neighbours, forcing top-level meetings aimed at defusing the growing tensions.
