A magazine cover of Barack Obama and his wife has triggered controversy in the United States.

The cartoon depicts Obama with a turban on his head and his wife Michelle as a gun-toting radical, with a portrait of Osama bin Laden in the background.

The magazine is defending the cartoon as satire, but Obama’s campaign team has described it as tasteless.

Roger Wilkinson reports on the fall out.
