US primaries: Battle for votes in the Midwest

Democratic candidates Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders compete for African American vote in Michigan primary.

by

Former Vice President Joe Biden is hoping to strengthen his lead over Senator Bernie Sanders in the next round of primaries to be the Democratic nominee for November's general election.

Winning Michigan is seen as a key step towards that goal.

And both candidates will be competing for the African American vote, as turnout among that demographic was the lowest in decades in the 2016 elections.
