US primaries: Unaffiliated voters choose their nominee

In a tradition that goes back almost 50 years, residents there were first to cast their ballots in state.

More than one-third of voters in New Hampshire state of the United States are independent.

Those voters can play a key role in selecting a party nominee.

The primary in this relatively small state traditionally plays a big role in selecting the party nominee in part due to its many independent voters.
