Australia’s bushfires are growing, with dozens starting in the south, adding to hundreds already burning in New South Wales and Queensland.

Thick smoke has blanketed Sydney, while the state of Victoria issued its first “Code Red” alert in 10 years – that is the worst possible fire condition.
