US expands migrant detention space along Mexico border

Critics say the migrants are refugees and should be greeted with assistance, rather than arrest and possible abuse.

The US government says it is expanding detention space along the southern border with Mexico to improve conditions for Central American asylum seekers being held.

Images of women, men and children packed into overcrowded cells have added to fierce criticism of Donald Trump’s hardline immigration policies.
