North African filmmakers pushing boundaries at Cannes 2019

It seems the Arab Spring has given wings to North African filmmakers whose stories are pushing the boundaries of subjects that have long been taboo in the region.

This year’s Cannes Film Festival is showcasing work by several North African filmmakers, who are tackling subjects long considered taboo in their home countries.

The festival is also featuring more female directors from the region than ever before.
