Cannes film festival: Brazilian films highlight political issues

This year Brazil has strong representation at the Cannes film festival with a diverse range of films.

It is a big year for Brazilian cinema at the 2019 Cannes film festival, with seven movies on the schedule.

The first screening in Cannes coincided with mass demonstrations back in Brazil against education cuts by President Jair Bolsonaro’s government. Cuts are also hitting the arts sector particularly hard.
