Thousands flee as ISIL and Taliban fight for Kunar province

More than 20,000 people flee their homes as violence between ISIL and Taliban escalate.

Afghan Special Forces, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL or ISIS) and the Taliban are preparing for a three-way battle in eastern Afghanistan.

ISIL started an offensive against the Taliban two weeks ago in Kunar province – a fight that has displaced more than 20,000 people.

Now the Afghan government says it is getting involved.

Al Jazeera’s Charlotte Bellis reports from Kunar.
