Central American migrants continue to face crackdown in Mexico

A signal of a shift in policy away from providing humanitarian support for Central American refugees and towards a programme of containment which is more in line with the demands of the US president.

At least 1,300 migrants, mostly Cubans, staged the largest mass escape in recent memory from a Mexican detention centre.

They say they had been facing overcrowding and unsanitary conditions at the facility.

Meanwhile, a caravan of some 3,000 Central American migrants has been broken up by immigration officials in southern Mexico.
