Kashmir’s heavy snow causes deadly avalanche

Rescue workers are digging through the snow with spades and even their hands to find survivors.

Two days of heavy snow have caused avalanches in the Himalayan region of Indian-administered Kashmir, killing at least nine people and leaving rescuers digging desperately to find survivors.

The snowfall has cut off the region, closing the airport and roads.

With supplies and support running low, Kashmiris have resorted to trying to clear the roads themselves.
