    Turkey has carried out military exercises at the border with Syria before an expected offensive on the northern city of Manbij, currently held by the United States-backed Kurdish fighters.

    US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has said he's hopeful an agreement can be reached with Ankara to protect Kurdish troops, as American forces prepare to leave.
