Iran to mark 40th anniversary of revolution

    Preparations are under way in Iran to mark the 40th anniversary of the 1979 revolution on Friday.

    The Islamic Republic of Iran was created after Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini returned from exile.

    In the weeks that followed, Khomeini’s followers overthrew the Shah of Iran's dynasty.
