Sri Lanka's new prime minister has officially started work after his sudden appointment triggered a political crisis.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is replacing Ranil Wickremesinghe, who says he still has majority support but is unable to prove it, as the current President Maithripala Sirisena suspended parliament.
