India’s economy could feel effect of US sanctions on Iran

There’s nervousness in India about how the US sanctions on Iran might affect India’s own economy.

India has close ties to Iran.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani came to New Delhi in February, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi went to Tehran two years ago. The two counties’ ties are strategic as well as economic.

India imports a large amount of its oil from Iran.

 

But as Al Jazeera’s Andrew Thomas explains, India’s relationship with Iran is far more than just economic.
