Toronto gun violence: Politicians call for ban on all handguns

Some are beginning to describe a 'summer of the gun' in Toronto as murder and gun crime rates are double what they were the previous year.

by

Politicians in Canada's largest city are calling for a ban on all handguns following last week's shoot-out which killed three people, including a 10-year-old girl.

Toronto has a reputation for being safe, but gun crime has risen recently.

Police blame the increase on criminals smuggling weapons across the border from the United States.

Al Jazeera's Daniel Lak reports from Toronto, Canada.
