The US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo tried to defend President Donald Trump's Russia policy in the face of tough criticism from the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

It is unclear if he managed to do that, although he did manage to steer the discussion briefly to ending North Korea's nuclear weapons programme and curbing Iran's influence in the Middle East.
