Guatemala’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs says nearly 6,000 unaccompanied Guatemalan children are in shelters around the United States.

Stories of families being divided by migration are nothing new in Guatemala.

Its foreign ministry says nearly 6,000 unaccompanied Guatemalan children are in shelters around the United States.

Many of them make the choice to travel alone in a bid to escape violence, poverty and lack of opportunities.
