Colombia evacuates thousands amid fears dam may burst

The Hidroituango dam on the river Cauca was in the final stages of construction when a blocked tunnel was cleared, causing flooding downstream that swept through a riverside village.

Engineers fear the largest hydroelectric dam under construction in Colombia could collapse.

Thousands of people living near the Cauca river have been ordered to leave their homes, after hundreds of others were washed away.

Al Jazeera’s Alessandro Rampietti reports from Bogota.
