An American soldier who deserted his post in Afghanistan and was captured and held by the Taliban for almost five years will not serve a prison sentence.

    An American soldier who deserted his post in Afghanistan and was captured and held by the Taliban for almost five years will not serve a prison sentence.

    US Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl faced up to 14 years in a military prison for desertion.

    But a military judge ruled on Friday that a lesser punishment was appropriate.
