Shalane Flanagan has become the first American woman to win the New York marathon in 40 years.

    Shalane Flanagan has become the first American woman to win the New York marathon in 40 years.

    The event, which took place less than a week after a truck attack in the city killed eight people, caused race organisers to step up security to a new level.
