Israel has approved plans for 176 new Jewish homes in occupied East Jerusalem.

Israeli ministers are also expected to vote on Sunday on a controversial bill that would bring illegal West Bank settlements around Jerusalem under the jurisdiction of the city; a move Palestinians call annexation.
