Israel has approved plans for 176 new Jewish homes in occupied East Jerusalem.

The expansion to the settlement of Nor Zion would make it the largest in the city, situated in the middle of a Palestinian neighbourhood.

Israeli ministers are also expected to vote on Sunday on a controversial bill that would bring illegal West Bank settlements around Jerusalem under the jurisdiction of the city; a move Palestinians call annexation.
