- 2001 Wikipedia.com goes online with the greeting, “Hello, world.”
- 2004 Site crashes in 2003. Wikipedia recovers with a fundraising drive.
- 2007 Only 6 full-time employees work for Wikipedia.
- 2011 Wikipedia diversifies, recruiting more women and opening its first overseas office.
- 2012 Wikipedia introduces a “Thank” button to recognise contributions by others to the site.
- 2015 Wikipedia has 38 million articles today.
