Al Jazeera to host 2016 IPI World Congress
The Qatar-based network will host the International Press Institute’s World Congress starting April 30 next year.
Al Jazeera will host the International Press Institute’s (IPI) World Congress in 2016 in Doha, Qatar from April 30 to May 3, 2016.
The IPI is a global network journalists, which works towards the furtherance and safeguarding of press freedom, and the protection of freedom of opinion and expression.
In a signing ceremony between Al Jazeera and the IPI, Al Jazeera’s acting director general, Dr Mostefa Souag, said, “As part of our ongoing commitment to press freedom, Al Jazeera is delighted to be hosting this milestone event alongside our colleagues at IPI”.
“It’s especially important that this event will be held in the Middle East as this is something that will help further the cause of press freedom and the improvement of standards in the region,” he added.
The 2015 IPI World Congress will be held in Yangon, Myanmar from March 27 to 29 and previous congresses have been held in Cape Town, South Africa, Amman, Jordan and Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.
