Iraqi army fights to regain control of Beiji from ISIL

When the Iraqi army took back control of the country’s largest oil refinery in Beiji in November, it was seen as a huge victory against ISIL, or Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

The army also freed an Iraqi Special Forces Unit that was under the control of ISIL fighters.

The battle, however, has continued for the town itself and, in many parts, ISIL still has the upper hand.
