Saeed Jaffrey: Actor who straddled disparate worlds

British-Indian star of Gandhi and The Man Who Would Be King and over 100 Bollywood productions dies aged 86 in London.

The veteran Indian actor Saeed Jaffrey has died in London at the age of 86.

Punjab-born Jaffrey starred in critically acclaimed films such as Gandhi, The Chess Players and with Michael Caine and Sean Connery in Hollywood’s The Man Who Would Be King.

He began his career in theatre and ended up working on more than 100 Bollywood productions and earned a BAFTA nomination for his role in My Beautiful Laundrette.
