Israelis buy more personal guns as violence escalates

Sales of weapons in Israel have rocketed and vigilante action raises questions about the accessibility of fire arms.

More than 150,000 guns are privately-owned in Israel. Add to that private security companies and all of the security forces and services and what you get is a colossal amount of firepower on the streets.

For weeks, Israeli leaders have been encouraging civilians – who legally own a gun – to carry them.

But vigilante action is raising questions about the accessibility of fire arms.

Al Jazeera’s Andrew Simmons reports from the occupied West Bank.
