Thai army tries new approach to win over separatists

Army begins trust-building exercise to try to convince separatists living over the border in Malaysia to return home.

The Thai army has often been criticised for its heavy-handed approach to ending a long-running conflict in the south. 
 
Muslim groups have been fighting for greater autonomy from the rest of the country, which is predominantly Buddhist. 

Thousands of separatists live over the border in Malaysia, and the army is now trying a new trust-building approach to bring them home, but many of those they are trying to persuade are sceptical.
