Kurdish forces locked in turf war with ISIL

Peshmerga determined to retain control of Sultan Abdullah, a strategic town, as part of effort to wrest back territory.

In northern Iraq, Kurdish Peshmerga forces are increasingly trying to retake territory occupied by ISIL. One of the key battles is in the town of Sultan Abdullah.

Peshmerga forces are reportedly in full control of the town, which is located between the ISIL stronghold of Mosul and the Kurdish capital Erbil, and are determined to maintain it.
