Syrians struggle to cope with winter hardship

No respite from violence and sub-zero temperatures for families housed in temporary relief shelters and tents.

Syrians are struggling to cope in the sub-zero temperatures with little resources. Many are living in temporary relief shelters and tents that offer inadequate protection from the cold.

At least seven Syrians are known to have died because of a snowstorm in the region and at least one of four children who died were from Eastern Ghouta, near  Damascus. But while the cold torments civilians, Syrian government forces and other fighters have not let up on combat.

Al Jazeera’s Paul Chaderjian explains the situation in Eastern Ghouta, where thousands of families are struggling to keep warm.
