Reddick, Butler star in 17-6 hammering; Harper drives in all four of Nationals’ runs in win over Phillies.

Josh Reddick homered and drove in four runs while Billy Butler had three hits with three RBIs as the Oakland Athletics routed the Chicago White Sox 17-6.

Marcus Semien also homered for the Athletics, who scored 10 times in the fourth inning and set a new season-high in scoring.

Aaron Brooks went six-plus innings and allowed six runs and 10 hits, but still eased to his first win since Aug. 1 to snap a three-decision losing streak.

Elsewhere, Bryce Harper homered twice and drove in all four of his team’s runs, and Stephen Strasburg struck out 14, as the Washington Nationals blanked the Philadelphia Phillies 4-0.

Harper continued his surge for the National League MVP award by going 3-for-3 with a solo homer, two-run shot and an RBI single.

The Los Angeles Angels got home runs from Mike Trout and David Murphy, while starting pitcher Nick Tropeano out-dueled Seattle’s Felix Hernandez to beat the Mariners 4-3.

Starling Marte’s sacrifice fly in the eighth inning gave the Pittsburgh Pirates a 5-4 victory over the Cubs in the first game of a doubleheader.
