Nigeria’s tomato farmers squeezed by low prices

A lack of capital, storage facilities and low margins are making it increasingly difficult for farmers to turn a profit.

The tomato season is coming to an end in Kura but this year, the harvest has been poor and the market price of tomatoes has crashed.

Lack of capital, a scarcity of storage facilities and poor pricing are gradually killing agriculture across the country.

As farmers reduce their prices to beat their competition, they face slimmer and slimmer margins.

Al Jazeera’s Ahmed Idris reports from Kura, Nigeria.
