Qatar 2022 reveal design of fifth World Cup stadium

Al Rayyan Stadium to house 40,000 fans and will be used until the quarter-finals stage.

Qatar 2022 organisers have revealed the design of the fifth stadium that will be used for the World Cup.

This is the first major development since it was confirmed that the 2022 World Cup will be played in Qatar’s winter months – the final will take place on December 18.

“The deconstruction of the previous Al Rayyan Stadium was completed in March 2015,” the officials said in a statement. “In line with the Supreme Committee’s commitment to sustainability, at least 90% of the materials are going to be reused to build the new stadium on the same site, in addition to other sports facilities.”

Richard Parr reports from the launch.
